Starbucks Shutdown Worse Than U.S. Government Shutdown

10/01/2013

starbucks_closed2-300x225The U. S. government shuts down and the general population yawns.  If Starbucks shuts down there would likely be riots in the streets.

For most Americans it seems there is too much government. Government spending is out of control, the IRS is a mess, health care reform is off to a rocky start…it’s hard to get behind the activities of our government. Perhaps a shut down would be good for the government. A chance to hit the reset button. We all know that’s not possible but it is a thought.

If you’re looking for a little anarchy ask someone about how they would feel if Starbucks shut down for a few days. They would freak out. Consumers world-wide fuel their day with Starbucks. Stopping for a cup of Starbucks is a ritual for many and mandatory for others.

Here’s a few eye-popping stats that will blow the foam off your latte’:

  • There are over 87,000 possible drink combinations at Starbucks
  • The Starbucks Cinnamon Chip Scone has more calories than a McDonald’s Quarter Pounder
  • Starbucks uses enough milk each year to fill over 155 Olympic swimming pools
  • A Starbucks grande coffee contains more caffeine than 4 Redbull energy drinks
  • The average Starbucks customer visits the store 6 times a month
  • In 2010 Starbucks had 137,000 employees. That is TWICE the population of Greenland
  • In Santa Fe, California there are 560 Starbucks in a 25 mile radius. This is the highest concentration of Starbucks in the world
  • Starbucks adds an average of 2 stores a day since 1987
  • Starbucks spends more on healthcare for its employees than it does on coffee beans each year
  • Starbucks uses 2.3 BILLION paper cups each year

So give the government a few days off to cool their heels. But don’t, under any circumstances, shut down Starbucks – even for a couple of hours.
