Greatness For All To Achieve

Watching the summer Olympics it’s difficult to not notice the athlete’s fitness. Of course they’re fit you say…they’re in the Olympics for crying out loud! Right you are.

What is striking is how different they look from the majority of folks one sees on a day-to-day basis. We’re not fit. In fact we’re fat. In 2010, about 35.7% of U.S. adults — nearly 78 million people — were obese. That’s up from 30.5% in 2000, but not much of a difference from 33.7% in 2008. And while obesity appears to have plateaued in the last couple of years…we’ve got a way to go.

The number of us who could shed a few pounds is even bigger than the obesity number. And perhaps that’s why the Nike ad, “Find Your Greatness – The Jogger” has become a viral sensation. Nike has “stolen” the Olympics from a marketing perspective – but this particular spot may be the best of class. The ad features Nathan. He is 12 years old. He’s from London, Ohio. Greatness is not beyond his reach, nor is it for any of us.

Inspiring words for all of us.
