Remember When Christmas Was Fun?

Santa Claus - circa 1931

Remember when Christmas was fun? Of course, there was the shopping and retailers needed a “good shopping season” but…it was somehow simpler.

For example the Christmas shopping season didn’t begin in October. Instead Thanksgiving weekend was the kick-off. Black Friday hadn’t been invented as an event. In fact “door busters” had not officially been conceived. Simpler days for sure.

Coca Cola has a long-running relationship with Santa Claus. In 1931 illustrator Haddon Sundblom began thirty-five years of Coca-Cola Santa advertisements that popularized and firmly established this Santa as an icon of contemporary commercial culture. Check out the heritage images on Coca Cola’s website.

This spot by Coca Cola delivers the spirit of fun in Christmas. I only wish we could shake Christmas up as easily as they do in this ad!
