TeliaSonera subsidiary Ncell has just completed installation of a 3G base station at 17,000 feet that will reach the 8,848-meter peak of Mount Everest.

The absence of wireless on Mt. Everest has long been an excuse for many who have toyed with the idea of climbing the world’s tallest mountain. Now they’ll need to come up with another excuse.

Is a Starbucks at Base Camp far behind?
