Moved to Enlist in the US Navy

Having espresso in the local caffine shop I noticed a poster on the bulletin board.

The poster in the shop was in rougher shape than this image. Numerous business cards from the local Navy recruiter had been removed.

A well-written headline speaks volumes. This one qualifies.

It (a) creates an emotional connection – instantly, (b) speaks to a broad audience, and (c) motivates action. I didn’t enlist. I’m too old. But at another point in life, in today’s times – I might have.

Interestingly this poster must be popular. It’s available for purchase on Veramar Naval Products website.

This was created shortly after 9/11 by a copywriter at Campbell-Ewald advertising in Detroit. The Navy has been using it in a lot of places ever since.

That’s good to know. It gives even more credibility to the headline – “staying power”!

The message is as relevant today as it was when first written.

      Thanks for the input.
