Bret Favre – Marketing Maven?

Here in Minnesota, land of 10,000 lakes and doughnut for four Super Bowl appearances, we are on the edge of our Lazy-Boys waiting for Bret to decide if he’s coming back to the NFL for one more run at the Super Bowl.

On the first week of Jay Leno’s return to “The Tonight Show”, Favre told Jay Leno he has not decided whether he will return to the Vikings in 2010, saying he was prepared to “sit back, relax and enjoy the off-season.”

Ol’ Bret may have tipped his hand. If this is the “off-season” he’s not retiring. Last I heard retirement is a full-time gig with no off-season.

Regardless, Bret’s personal marketing savvy is clear. He knows his brand persona – and exploits it. The Sears “Cold Feet” ad where Bret’s waffling on the purchase of a TV was one of the better spots in 2009.

I admire #4’s marketing savvy. He’s the man and the brand.
